  • Norquist :

I just bought one of these blenders, and it broke the first time I used it. The metal tube that covers the spinning blade shaft just fell out of the handle. It looks like it was just glued there, but not very well. Thank goodness I had it submerged in my soup in a fairly narrow pan when it broke and the spinning shaft and blade stayed in the pan. I don’t want to think what would have happened if it flew out when it broke, while the blade was still turning! Definitely an unsafe and not usable product.

  • Jong :

Used this handheld blender for over a year. It was okay and worked well enough for soup. Recently developed trouble and shaft fell apart. Would not recommend.

  • Qua :

I got this for xmas and after using it a few times on things like salad dressing and soup the metal shaft fell out of the plastic housing. It can’t be fixed. I suppose I could super glue it but I’d rather not have glue in my food. Also did anyone notice on the plastic housing where it has directional arrows showing which way to tighten and loosen are backwards!! Very frustrating. This is a piece of junk. I also got an Oster electric cheese grater for xmas and that’s a piece of crap too!

  • Alkes :

Thank goodness I didn’t return the blender after reading all these reviews. It was sitting repacked waiting to be sent back when I had to use it in an emergency to puree baby food. It did an excellent job and that in under seconds! Another 2 seconds (I’m not even exagerrating) and the shaft and blade were clean and drying. I can customize the texture just be lifting the blade in and out of the food bowl.
I think it’s good for cooked foods and liquids (like soups/fruitshakes w/o ice) but yeah, I wouldn’t use it to liquify ice ever. Even some good blenders do a poor job at crushing ice.
It’s not as loud/noisy as my Oster blender 12-speed (that I love! But its jar chipped during washing and I’m waiting for a replacement jar). Perfect for quick blending. I highly recommend it!

  • Garrigan :

I purchased two of these blenders, one for me and one for my mother. During the first use the plastic around the shaft cracked. I was making a smoothie (yogurt, ripe banana and milk…not tough). I returned it to the store and got a replacement. Meanwhile, my mother had the same and problem with hers and I had another crack on first use of my replacement. Needless to say I returned the 2 blenders and will probably never purchased another Oster product…..IT IS JUNK!

  • Cleveland :

Love the mixer. Easy to use, a bit heavy when you have to whip for 7 minutes. Ejects easily. It doesn’t seem to throw it out of the bowl while whipping liquids as my last mixer did. It was not a Sunbeam!

  • Hao :

Very pleased with this mixer. It has a solid feel and plenty of power.

My only suggestion would be for a slower speed for stirring or folding in ingredients.

  • Hou :

I always look for power when I purchase a hand mixer because I use it for potatoes and do several pounds a year for the holidays. This works great, it worked just as well mashing potatoes as mixing a cake. I just wish it has an eject button for the beaters rather than having to “pull” them out.

  • Quanch :

I also used this mixer for mixing powder drinks with milk. I had problems after a few months with the metal blade shaft seizing up, and eventually flakes of what appeared to be metal started showing up in the milk.

  • Kitchens :

I used the blender for a few years. I liked it until the plastic part that holds the blade cracked and let the blade loose. I guess it is a blender with a short life-span. If you need something long lasting, don’t buy it. If you don’t mind replacing it every 2 or 4 years, then it is a very practical and versatile tool.

  • Ohm :

We received this hand blender as a gift and were very happy with it until the gear that drives the blade shaft stripped out it is apparently a cheap plastic gear. If that one part were made better the thing would probably be a nice appliance. I tried the Oster service center and couldn’t even get a replacement part. The guy on the phone said that most of the hand blenders were purchased on a “throw-away basis”. It would be nice if they would advertise that fact. “Buy this blender and throw it away a few months later!” They probably wouldn’t sell to well.

  • Isaac :

I have used this mixer for three years to whip cream and to make medium thick milk shakes. It is very good. I got one cup with it and purchased two more that are too short to lock on for mixing, and must be held by me. I do turn the cups, even the one that fits the mixer, by just turning the cup as the mixer is running. For whipped cream I take the cup off once and stir with a spoon, but for shakes it does an excellent job. The cup that came with it is a 28-ounce size.

  • Abril :

For many years, I have used a blender to make milkshakes. This is not the easiest way, so I decided to buy a unit similar to ones found in ice cream shops. I picked this unit because of the chrome finish–easier to keep clean. I am VERY happy with this item. I keep it on my kitchen counter ready to use. SO easy–just add ice cream, milk, flavoring and mix. The turn top for speed control is easy to use. It blends the ingredients quickly and easily. The container is easy to handle–I just wish the container held a little more. What a great buy!

  • Janss :

Just like the milkshake mixers I knew in the fifties, only even more attractive. If you like milkshakes, and who doesn’t, this is an item you shouldn’t be without.

  • O'Bryant :

Well worth the extra money, the motor does not get hot after a minute-and-half like cheaper rivals.
Turn it on and off by turning the “head” to left or right.
Appears to be rugged and robust and likely to last a long time.

UPDATE, Feb. 2009: after about six months of light usage it died, it is a one star, avoid it……..
