I have had this Cuisinart product for several years. I have used it mostly as a blender and had no problems. The blender is no better, but no worse that my old Osterizer. A few months ago, I decided to start using the food processor assembly. Suddenly, one night while using the food processor bowl the gear on top of the motor assembly started to shred with the motor on. I believe that I had everything lined up properly as the instruction manual states that “The food processor will not start until the collar, work bowl and work bowl lid are locked into place.” When I called customer service they told me that the 3-year warranty period had just ended 3 weeks ago, but that it was covered within a 2-month grace period. I was instructed to mail back all of the pieces with a $10 check for return shipping and the unit would be repaired. However, customer service insisted that all the pieces including the food processor work bowl, blender jar, blades and lids all be shipped back. I suspect that the insured shipping cost of this is going to be close to the cost of a new unit. I may try to replace the gear myself.

After doing more blender research than I care to admit to myself, I narrowed my search to three blenders. I selected this model after speaking to a most informed and helpful Kitchenaid customer service rep who answered my remainding questions one Saturday afternoon. Since, they staffed their customer serviced department on the weekends, I was already impressed. This blender replaced a just out-of-warranty Cuisinart blender which I loved, until it died a premature death, I can say without hestiattion this model is far better. Since I use our blender daily to make breakfast smoothies, some with ice, I thought my blender needs were simple. Quite to the contrary, I discovered. There is no middle ground when it comes to chopping ice and this blender does a superb and lighin’ quick job. I add very frozen berries to the morning mix and this blender handles them beautifully. The performance, design, ease of operation and cleaning each have exceeded my expectations.

Like others, mine smells. And, after one year, the impeller leaks, rendering it worthless. First I thought it was the gasket, but quickly realized that it was leaking through the shaft. Checked out Cuisinart site, and new one only costs $10….oops, did I mention that they also want $5.95 in shipping. Almost 17% of the cost of a new one. Time to find a decent blender.

How interesting that I would recieve an email inviting me to review my new Cusinart Duet Blender/Food Processor while I’m drinking my berry smoothie that I just finished making in it!
I can honestly only write about the activity of making a smoothie for this review. If making smoothies is why you need a blender, please don’t purchase this one.
For some reason they have designed the blades to be more than halfway below the bottom of the glass pitcher and ice, larger fruit (like strawberries) never get chopped up and if the concoction that you’re making is a frozen type, it will just spin and spin and nothing actually makes it down into the blade area. Opening the top and stirring every 20 seconds to get the mix down to the blades is very frustrating and time consuming.

Do yourself a favor and have an extra one of these (with the gasket) handy, because one ice cube too many and these things self destruct. On my last one the plastic bottom piece that connects to the drive piece on the motor stripped itself and spun freely. Boo to Cuisinart for putting such a shoddy part on what otherwise would be a great blender.

I have one of these Smart Power Duet processoe/blenders and I think it is a very handy and space saving tool. I set it up on my counter and use it all the time. As far as noise goes, what electric power tool isn’t. It is worth it for the quick job it does.

I wish I didn’t buy it, just stops working yesterday. I don’t know what happened, there is no reason, I took care of it according to the label. Don’t buy it!!!! I can’t believe I gave 100 to this piece of junk!!!!Now my return window with Amazon has passed, and Cuisinart won’t replace it. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
