How interesting that I would recieve an email inviting me to review my new Cusinart Duet Blender/Food Processor while I’m drinking my berry smoothie that I just finished making in it!
I can honestly only write about the activity of making a smoothie for this review. If making smoothies is why you need a blender, please don’t purchase this one.
For some reason they have designed the blades to be more than halfway below the bottom of the glass pitcher and ice, larger fruit (like strawberries) never get chopped up and if the concoction that you’re making is a frozen type, it will just spin and spin and nothing actually makes it down into the blade area. Opening the top and stirring every 20 seconds to get the mix down to the blades is very frustrating and time consuming.

I am so glad the housekeepers broke my original Oster Blender glass pitcher. If that had not happened, I would have never discovered the joy of my stainless steel replacement. Smoothies and milk shakes are super COLD and take you back to the Happy Days when you ordered a malt in a cafe it came in an ice cold steel can from the mixer. It looks great on the chrome blender. Get one.

I bought a Cuisinart because I expected it to live up to its name. I don’t ask much of it. Every morning I mix 16 oz. yogurt, a few liquid vitamins, etc., and a cup of frozen Maine (very small) blueberries for breakfast. I don’t crush ice at all. From the start, this machine screamed at me. The bottom third of the potion grudingly begins to move a little after a few seconds of idle grinding and I have to keep taking the top off and stirring by hand to mix in the rest. I have to switch around from low to high and pulse to get this moving at all. It takes forever to get something the consistency of home-made ice cream. When I pour, the brew plops everywhere but in the glass. Now the motor seems to be burning out - rubber and electric smell. I have a Kitchen RRKSB5 at my summer place that works perfectly. I start at low and switch to pulp and I have a liquid drink in just a couple of minutes. I can pour easily out of the glass pitcher. Quiet, easy, fast. I recommend the Kitchen Aid. Shame on Cuisinart!

I wasn’t thrilled with this blender’s user interface (the buttons are kind of unintuitive), but I could live with it. And it actually is a nice solid glass blender, which is good because I often blend hot soups - so heatproof glass is a major plus. Unfortunately the base is nowhere near as solid. It’s almost comical that Cuisinart used such a cheap, easily cracked, plastic base with such a diesel pitcher.

The problem is that if you tighten the glass pitcher onto the base with too much torque, you’ll end up with a hairline crack in the base where it threads onto the pitcher. The entire base is just one large brittle piece of hard plastic. If they had used rubber or more-flexible plastic material, then this crack wouldn’t happen. It’s made from the kind of plastic that if you put it in the freezer for a day, took it out, and dropped it on the floor, would shatter into a hundred pieces. It just makes no sense that such an otherwise solid blender would have such a cheap failure point.

Better alternative than a pricey juicer that is a cleaning chore. My Oster Fusion works fine… I use it manly for making juice drinks with mixed fruits or veggie drinks with soft vegetables. Well made with it’s heavy glass pitcher.. well made drive mechanism.

I don’t do mixed drinks. so have no opinion… but for fruits, veggies and salsa making I think this product is a great choice. especially if you seek a versatile appliance that juices, mixes and chops… with no messy cleanup.

We purchased this blender at a local home improvement store, thinking the well-respected name, 600 watt motor, and glass pitcher would equal one heavy-duty machine. It looks great! But, it stopped working mid-way through the second batch of frozen drinks! Didn’t have it turned “ON,” I was using the pulsing feature. So, called the Customer Service number, and they said I could send it to them for repair or replacement in two weeks. The reatiler was 10 minutes away, so returning it there was no big deal.

The second time around, the blender again stopped working during the second use. I made the children some banana milkshakes, rinsed the pitcher out, to make some strawberry frozen drinks for us. The darned thing stopped working again! Called Customer Service about it and they gave me the same story. So, back to the home-store . . .

Take three . . . new machine . . . made one batch of our favourite frozen drinks again. Poured two glasses and left the rest sitting in the pitcher for seconds. When I came back for seconds, I wanted to tap the pulse feature to re-blend the drinks . . . but, the thing wouldn’t work!! Back on the phone to Customer Service. They suggested I check their website and select another of their “fine blender line.” YEAH RIGHT!!! They also said that “maybe you got a ‘bad batch’.” A “bad batch” of blenders?

Several things can be learned here: I enjoy frozen strawberry drinks too much, my local home improvement store has great customer service, and THIS BLENDER IS A PIECE OF JUNK!!!!
