I have had this Cuisinart product for several years. I have used it mostly as a blender and had no problems. The blender is no better, but no worse that my old Osterizer. A few months ago, I decided to start using the food processor assembly. Suddenly, one night while using the food processor bowl the gear on top of the motor assembly started to shred with the motor on. I believe that I had everything lined up properly as the instruction manual states that “The food processor will not start until the collar, work bowl and work bowl lid are locked into place.” When I called customer service they told me that the 3-year warranty period had just ended 3 weeks ago, but that it was covered within a 2-month grace period. I was instructed to mail back all of the pieces with a $10 check for return shipping and the unit would be repaired. However, customer service insisted that all the pieces including the food processor work bowl, blender jar, blades and lids all be shipped back. I suspect that the insured shipping cost of this is going to be close to the cost of a new unit. I may try to replace the gear myself.

I have one of these Smart Power Duet processoe/blenders and I think it is a very handy and space saving tool. I set it up on my counter and use it all the time. As far as noise goes, what electric power tool isn’t. It is worth it for the quick job it does.

How interesting that I would recieve an email inviting me to review my new Cusinart Duet Blender/Food Processor while I’m drinking my berry smoothie that I just finished making in it!
I can honestly only write about the activity of making a smoothie for this review. If making smoothies is why you need a blender, please don’t purchase this one.
For some reason they have designed the blades to be more than halfway below the bottom of the glass pitcher and ice, larger fruit (like strawberries) never get chopped up and if the concoction that you’re making is a frozen type, it will just spin and spin and nothing actually makes it down into the blade area. Opening the top and stirring every 20 seconds to get the mix down to the blades is very frustrating and time consuming.

This blender works fine for making smoothies, if you run it long enough. However the bowl is very difficult to take apart - there’s no place to get a good grip to unscrew it. The labels on the buttons (”on” “off”) have worn off after a year. And sometimes on the “ice crush” mode, it simply unscrews the bowl instead of sucking down the ice! Also, the cover has all these little places where food can get stuck and it’s very hard to clean. You’d think after making blenders for decades, they’d have figured all these things out!

I bought a Cuisinart because I expected it to live up to its name. I don’t ask much of it. Every morning I mix 16 oz. yogurt, a few liquid vitamins, etc., and a cup of frozen Maine (very small) blueberries for breakfast. I don’t crush ice at all. From the start, this machine screamed at me. The bottom third of the potion grudingly begins to move a little after a few seconds of idle grinding and I have to keep taking the top off and stirring by hand to mix in the rest. I have to switch around from low to high and pulse to get this moving at all. It takes forever to get something the consistency of home-made ice cream. When I pour, the brew plops everywhere but in the glass. Now the motor seems to be burning out - rubber and electric smell. I have a Kitchen RRKSB5 at my summer place that works perfectly. I start at low and switch to pulp and I have a liquid drink in just a couple of minutes. I can pour easily out of the glass pitcher. Quiet, easy, fast. I recommend the Kitchen Aid. Shame on Cuisinart!

I recently purchased this processor after debating Kitchenaid or Cuisinart. Since my last KA mixer purchase (Dec 2008) left me with a mixer far inferior to its twenty-year-old KA predecessor, I was inclined to give Cuisinart a try. I needed the normal processor functions (shredding/slicing/pulverizing) as my cheapo (25+ yr)processor processed some of its own parts. I make breads weekly (which is why the 2nd KA purchase)and have been literally blown away by the performance of the Cuisinart processor for making bread dough. It took several batches before I figured out how to best do so (and required ignoring directions on DVD). The dough only needs to be kneaded for a minute–two at the most. Every loaf I have made produced excellent results–even the ones following the DVD. The problem there was that the dough did not mix properly when streaming in the liquids. The mixture was going under the blade and rising up into the crevices of the blade–nasty cleaning job. After about 3 cleanings, I just tried putting everything into the bowl and going from there–adjusting texture as I needed. It’s worked perfectly. I use the recipes from my breadmaker cookbook. Everything from whole grains mixtures to sour dough have turned out beautifully. Yes, it does slice and shred very well although some of the food gets trapped between the disc and the lid. My discs seem to be stainless steel although others have reported theirs were not–maybe a slightly different model (mine is DLC-2011N). I can’t speak to longevity. I had only used my other processor for shredding and slicing. I really didn’t use it that much. This one is being used at least weekly. There are many techniques (egg whites and cake mixes, for instance) I haven’t yet ventured, but for now, I am really happy with my purchase.
